National Board Certification
Process
  • National Board Certification is a credential attesting that a teacher has been judged by his/her peers as one who is accomplished in the field of education.  The accredited teacher makes sound professional judgments about student learning and acts effectively on those judgments.  National Board Certified Teachers demonstrate a high level of knowledge, skills, dispositions, and commitments reflected in the National Board’s five core propositions:

  • Knowledge of subject matter and how to teach those subject areas
  • Responsibility in managing and monitoring student learning
  • Think systematically about their practice and learn from experiences
  • Are members of the learning community

National Board Certification
Process, cont.
  • Board certification is a rigorous process that takes approximately one year to complete, culminating in a board examination in all areas.

Becky Beal
  • Becky Beal has served as the Edwardsville High School Science Department Chair since 2005. She currently teaches AP Chemistry, Honors Chemistry I, and Honors Chemistry II. She began her teaching career at Van-Far High School in Vandalia, MO; she has taught at EHS for 26 years.
  • Mrs. Beal earned a B.S. in Biology Education (Chemistry minor) and an M.S. in Environmental Science, both from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Jeanne Brunworth
  • Jeanne Brunworth is a 30-year veteran of the Edwardsville School District. She currently teaches fifth grade at Woodland Elementary School.
  • Mrs. Brunworth earned a B.S. in Elementary Education, an M.S. in Instructional Technology, and Administrative Certification from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Marie Hackett
  • Marie Hackett has spent her entire 15-year teaching career in District 7. She began her teaching career at the elementary level, but she currently teaches sixth grade at Liberty Middle School.
  • Ms. Hackett earned a B.S. in American Studies and a Master’s in Education from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Becky Holle
  • Becky Holle is an eight-year veteran of the Edwardsville School District. She currently teaches Culinary Arts and Early Childhood Occupations at Edwardsville High School.
  • Ms. Holle earned her B.S. Degree from Kansas State University from the College of Human Ecology.  She is certified in Family and Consumer Science at the secondary level, and she is also certified in Elementary Education.

Kay Hymel
  • Kay Hymel, an Edwardsville High School graduate, is a 27-year veteran of the Edwardsville School District. She has been a special education teacher at Edwardsville High School since 1991. She is currently the transition coordinator in addition to teaching special education math.
  • Ms. Hymel earned both Bachelor and Master’s Degrees in Education from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Deb McNabney
  • Deb McNabney has been employed in the Edwardsville School District for 15 years, first as a school nurse at Columbus and Leclaire. She currently teaches eighth grade science at Lincoln Middle School.
  • Mrs. McNabney earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Psychology and a Master of Science in Instructional Technology from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Jon Parkin
  • Jon Parkin has been a teacher for 17 years, 14 of which have been in the Edwardsville School District. He currently teaches social studies and sponsors/advises Youth & Government, Student Venture, and War Games Club at Edwardsville High School .
  • Mr. Parkin earned a B.S. in Geography from Roosevelt University and an M.S. in Geography from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Becky Shaw
  • Becky Shaw is a 17-year veteran of the Edwardsville School District. She has been a certified reading teacher for the past 15 years. She currently teaches reading at Glen Carbon Elementary School.
  • Mrs. Shaw earned a B.S. in Elementary Education and an M.S. in Elementary Education from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Carol Wagoner
  • Carol Wagoner has taught for 27 years, 13 of which have been in the Edwardsville School District. She is currently an elementary physical education specialist.
  • Mrs. Wagoner earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Illinois and has taken graduate coursework at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and Indiana University.

Addie Washington
  • Addie Washington is an 11-year veteran of Columbus Elementary School in the Edwardsville School District. She currently teaches fourth grade.
  • Mrs. Washington earned a Bachelor of Business Administration and Management and Elementary Certification from McKendree College and a Master of Science in Education Administration from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Chris Zimmer
  • Chris Zimmer has taught in the Edwardsville School District for 11 years. Teaching was a second career for Mr. Zimmer; he worked more than 20 years for Amoco Chemicals. He currently teaches science at Liberty Middle School.
  • Mr. Zimmer earned his B.S. in Biology from Central Missouri State University and his Master’s degree in Secondary Education Science from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
