  1. Section 1 - The five themes of geography
    1. Geography is the study of the Earth
    2. The themes
      1. location: where a place is located
        1. relative - what it is near
        2. absolute - the exact address/latitude and longitude

2. place - describes climate and terrain (hills, valley, desert)

3.human environment interaction - people's jobs

4.movement - what brings peoples ideas to a place - can mean different types of food

5.region: Midwest / east coast / South - used to make comparisons of a place

  1. Section 2 : Geographer's tools
    1. Globes / maps
      1. Globes are round and have no distortion because it is round like the Earth.
      2. Maps have distortion because they are globes that have been drawn on a flat piece of paper.
      3. Scale - shows distance ( 1inch = 100 miles)
      4. Distortion - happens when a flat map projection shows areas that are not accurate.

B.Getting it all on the map (projections)

      1. Mercator projection: shows the lands at top and bottom as too big but things in the middle as just right.
      2. Robinson projection: is very accurate. It looks like a ball that has been squished at the top and bottom.
