AQUA FRACTIONS

The students started with four containers. Only one had a mark indicating 2 cups.

To find 1/8 cups, I started with 2 cups. Then I marked half way, which is 1 cup. Then I marked half way again, which is 1/2 cup. Then I marked half way again, which is 1/4. Then I marked half way again and got 1/8 cup. - Jordan

To find 3/4 cup, I poured 3 1/4's .

To find 1 1/2 cups, I used the smallest container which equaled 1/4 . I poured two of the small cup into the contianer that held two cups of water. Then I poured one cup into the contianer that held two cups.

To find 7/8 cups, I poured 1/8 seven times.

You have four different sizes of containers. Only 1 of the containers has a mark that indicates 2 cups. Below there are various measurements that you will be required to find. Explain how you determined the measurements.

Example:

1/2 cup - I filled container B to the 2 cups mark. Then I poured 1/2 out and made a new mark on the cup for 1 cup because 1/2 of 2 is 1. Then I poured out 1/2 again. That left 1/2 cup in container B.
