Ten vocabulary words are chosen by the teacher at the beginning of each week. The words come from any or all of the subjects being studied that week such as; Science, Health, Reading, Geography, Math, English. The students are required to copy each word five times, use each word in a sentence, and include its part of speech. This homework assignment is usually made on Monday and is due on Wednesday. The students use their homework to have a "vocab discussion". A vocab discussion is a time when we compare sentences and determine if the words have been used appropriately. This discussion gives the students the opportunity to amend their sentences before the vocab test on Thursday.

Vocabulary tests are extremely important. Three grades are collected from each test. A Reading grade is taken for the accurate use of the word in a sentence. A Spelling Grade is taken for correct spelling. An English grade is taken for including the correct part of speech.
