Grants supply a significant contribution to District 7’s
budget. Grant dollars come from both federal and state sources; some
are entitlement grants, and others are competitive. Entitlement
grants are based on enrollment and meeting certain criteria; a
formula based on the criteria of the specific grant is applied to
determine the amount of funding the District receives. Competitive
grants are those that districts apply for in competition with other
districts in the state. Those districts that apply compete with each
other for those dollars. District 7 pursues those grants whose
program parameters meet the educational goals of the District and
provide opportunities to enrich the learning of District students.
Entitlement grants support reading programs, staff development,
safe school and drug-free programs, detention home programs,
technology, class size reduction, vocational education, and others.
Competitive grants currently support the early childhood program,
adult education, and programming at the high school.
