» N.O. Nelson Complex Web site
The vision is one of a high-tech career education center serving
the residents of Edwardsville-Glen Carbon areas. District 7 and
LCCC have jointly
planned the programming for the N.O. Nelson Campus component of
Edwardsville High School (EHS). The building being built in Phase 1
of the implementation will be used by EHS students and teachers
during the day and LCCC students and teachers in the late afternoon
and evening. EHS students will attend either a morning session or an
afternoon session.
The historic N. O. Nelson Campus is located off Troy Road (Route
159), across from the Market Basket, and by the Leclaire baseball
diamond. It is located in what was the old Wagner Complex of
Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (SIUE). The renovation
and construction will be done in at least two phases. Phase 1
consists of constructing a new building for joint use by District 7
and LCCC as well as renovation of one of the historic buildings.
This construction is scheduled to be completed by August 2003. Phase
2 involves the renovation of other buildings on the historic site
into a career education center, including vocational and general
education courses. Estimated completion date is August 2005. Funding
for both phases has been allocated by the State of Illinois.
Career and technical education courses are paired with academic
courses to complete the morning or afternoon session. Many of the
courses will offer dual-credit for those students who qualify. The
technology-rich courses scheduled for the N.O. Nelson campus
include: CISCO Networking Technology
- PC Repair and Maintenance
- PC Operating Systems
- Web Page Design
- Computer Aided Drafting (CAD)
