"We Americans are the best informed people on earth as to the events of the last twenty-four hours; we are not the best informed as to the events of the last sixty centuries."
- Will and Ariel Durant
Medieval World History traces the development of medieval civilizations, including Byzantium, Arabia, China, Japan, England, France, and the Americas. These are explored from the fall of Rome through the Renaissance, and the development of feudalism through monarchy. Each unit involves a review of major events, historical figures, geographical details, and cultural advances. The course includes discussions of economic, political, and cultural changes as well as an analysis and comparison of historical events. The textbook we use is World History - The Human Experience, published by the McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc., is endorsed by the National Geographic Society.
