BAND TRIVIA YOU MAY NOT KNOW:

1) First EHS "band" actually played only for the school operettas (1915-1931)

2) First EHS band to play at sporting events started by Willis C. Varner, who grew the band from nothing to a competitive 90 member band in one year.

3) According to the "Tiger" a "Swing Band" was started in 1941 when Director Ralph Shannon "got help to the Jive and dug in his band and brought out a few jive-cats."  The Swing band went on to play a matinee dance every fourth Friday.  Student Cleaon Etzkorn played trumpet in that original Swing Band.

3) During World War II, Lucille McKinney became the first woman director when Director Ralph Shannon left to work at the Red Cross.

4) An original  bass drum featured in the 1933 band yearbook photo was still in use by the band 70 years later.

5) Long-time Band director, Cleaon Etzkorn began in 1946 and directed over 30 years.

6)  The EHS Band marched with Baton Twirlers from it's inception until 1975.

7)  In 1996 the EHS band toured Europe for 9 days, playing in a festival in the Netherlands.

8) In the past eight years alone, the EHS Band has won over 126 awards at competitions.

9) The members of the current EHS band play over 50 performances throughout the year, including sporting events, concerts, competitions, parades, and assemblies.
