Chamber Singers
A mixed voice,
auditioned choir open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have demonstrated outstanding singing technique and
sight-reading abilities by audition. A variety of styles of music by many
different composers and arrangers are presented for enjoyment and study. The
music selected in this course is for advanced choir students capable of singing
in a small ensemble setting. Students must attend all dress rehearsals and
concerts.

Dear
Parents/Guardians of Chamber Singers,
As we embark on a new school
year, I wanted to make you aware of additional requirements
for the Chamber Singers during this school year. At the end
of the 2008-2009 school year, audition recordings from each
choral ensemble at Edwardsville High School were sent to the
Illinois Music Educators Association (IMEA) for
consideration to be selected for a performance at the 2010
IMEA All-State Conference. In July, I received notice that
the EHS Chamber Singers had been selected for a performance
at All-State in Peoria on January 29, 2010. This is a great
honor for this ensemble, Edwardsville Community Unit School
District 7, and the entire southern Illinois region of IMEA.
Because this performance will be happening only three weeks
into second semester, Chamber Singers is unusually large in
the fall semester because students who would normally be
added second semester only are now part of the group for the
entire year. Therefore, your child will not only be
required to attend the All-State performance in Peoria, but
must also participate in the 11th Annual Madrigal
Dinners. There will be three Madrigal Dinner performances
this year in the Liberty Middle School Auditorium:
Friday,
December 4, 2009- 7:00 p.m.
Saturday,
December 5, 2009- 2:00 p.m. Matinee & 7:00 p.m.
Your son or daughter will need a Renaissance costume (for
the Madrigal Dinner and first semester performances) by our
first concert on October 8, 2009. You may choose to borrow
a costume from a former Chamber Singer, borrow one of the
school-owned costumes, or make your own. If you choose to
make your own, the pattern and fabric must be approved by me
prior to sewing the costume. Fabric stores will allow you
to take free swatches so I can approve the fabric and
color. Trim for costumes must be gold, no silver is
allowed. All females are required to have a headpiece and
slippers with their costumes. Males are required to have a
hat, tights (or tall socks tucked under knickers), and
slippers (houseshoe-like). Please let me know if you need
monetary assistance with any of the required items.
When possible, I give as much advanced notice as possible to
the students in this group when special performances are
scheduled. This ensemble is usually very busy with extra
community performances during the month of November,
December, April, and May. Please regularly check the
district website for updates on performances.
Thank you,
Mrs. Marshall
