CONSUMER ED PROFICIENCY TEST: The Illinois Consumer Education Proficiency Test will be administered the last Wednesday in January after school. Students register two weeks before the test date in the guidance office.  This test can only be taken during the junior year.

PLAN:  Edwardsville High School is pleased to offer American College Testing Program’s PLAN Test to all sophomores at no charge.  PLAN is the tenth grade test that gives students a forecast of how they might perform on the ACT Assessment, which is taken in the junior year and is taken for college admission purposes.  This test is given in the fall.

PLAN consists of four academic tests: English, Math, Reading, and Science Reasoning.  In addition to gauging academic achievement, PLAN provides information for educational and career planning.  A more detailed description can be found at the ACT website www.act.org/plan/.   Quick Links: PLAN Information

PSAE (Prairie State Achievement Exam): All high school juniors take the PSAE since it is a requirement for graduation. It is an Illinois high school accountability test, which measures the Illinois Learning Standards in five different academic areas. The PSAE includes three testing areas: 1) the ACT, which is a college entrance exam; 2) the Work Keys exams, which measure students’ mathematics and reading skills when applied in workplace situations; and 3) the ISBE developed exams, which measure students’ mastery of the Illinois Learning Standards in reading, writing, math, science, and social science.  Quick Links: PSAE Information · PSAE F.A.Q.

PSAT/NMSQT (PRELIMINARY SCHOLASTIC APTITUDE TEST/NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP QUALIFYING TEST): This test is required for all students who wish to be considered for a National Merit Scholarship. A very high test score is required to become a semifinalist. This is also the test African-American students must take to compete for scholarships from the National Achievement Program for Outstanding African American Students. The PSAT/NMSQT is a multiple-choice test that measures verbal and mathematical reasoning ability important for success in college. It is recommended that this test be taken in the junior year. This test is not required for college admission. Registration is done by the student in the guidance office.  Watch the announcements for sign up dates.  The cost is $17.00.

Some institutions requiring the SAT also require one or more achievement tests for admissions. Students  should refer to each college’s catalog for specific information about which tests are recommended.
