Survive the Drive Campaign
Posted: March 31, 2008

Video 1 - Video 2 - Video 3 - Video 4

EHS ALPHA students have been working hard on a SURVIVE THE DRIVE campaign that is part of an Illinois Operation Safe Teen Driving grant to increase car safety awareness and decrease car crashes and fatalities for teens. 105 out of 220 schools were chosen to participate and EHS is one of 15 schools in the southern part of the state to compete for more grant money for our school. We are the only Madison County School to be chosen to participate.

The week of March 24th has been dedicated to our SURVIVE THE DRIVE campaign. We will be showing our PSA that was videoed by Jack Twesten and edited by Bill Nahlik from KETC 9. Please click on the link to see our PSA. Please help with any discussion with your teen about the importance of safe teen driving and that teens are not only putting themselves at risk they are also putting innocent families at risk. All week we will be holding a t-shirt contest for the students with chances to win prizes. Thursday is the EHS Health Fair for some invited students in the large gym and Friday we are holding a Driving Fair in the main lobby for the rest of the school. If you are on school grounds look for the Survive the Drive banner, the pledge wall for wearing your seat belt and the street signs as you leave school grounds along with many other activities for students to participate in.

The ALPHA students have worked very hard on this campaign and thank you for any support that you can give to decrease the number one killer of teens today 15-24 years old. Please remember to SURVIVE THE DRIVE, CONSEQUENCES ARE FOREVER, IT CAN HAPPEN TO YOU.

The EHS Drama Club is proud to present Broadway's legendary musical, Les Miserables
Posted March 20, 2006

Originally adapted from Victor Hugo’s timeless novel, Les Miserables, EHS drama introduces a new generation to the grand and inspirational story that has touched the hearts of millions.

This epic story recounts the struggle against adversity in 19th century France. Imprisoned for stealing a loaf of bread, petty thief Jean Valjean is released from his 19-year term and not only becomes an honest man, but the mayor of a prosperous town and a loving adoptive father - violating his parole in the process. The relentless Inspector Javert, who makes a decent life for Valjean impossible, consequently pursues him. Only years later, after Valjean proves his mettle during a bloody student uprising and saves the life of a young man hopelessly in love with Valjean’s adopted daughter, does the ex-convict finally feel fully redeemed, for within Les Miserables lies the universal truth “To love another person is to see the face of God”.

With its true-to-the-age costumes, multi-dimensional moveable sets, fabulous acting and vocals, it is sure to be the must-see high school show of the year. Performances are Friday, March 31 and Saturday, April 1 at 7:30 pm and Sunday, April 2 at 2:00 pm. Tickets are reserved seating at $5.00 each. Senior citizens are free but must have a ticket. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
March 31, 2005 - Caleb Romoser

The comedy begins when married couple Domina and Senex go on a trip to visit Domina’s mother. Their son Hero is left in the care of Pseudolus, an ever mischievous slave who only wants his freedom. While his parents are away Hero falls in love with a woman (Philia) he sees in the neighboring window. A few major problems with this match are that the girl is owned by Lycus, a buyer and seller of courtesans, and Hero’s parents would more than disapprove. Pseudolus’s only responsibility is to protect Hero’s innocence, but that is thrown into jeopardy when Hero offers freedom to Pseudolus in exchange for Philia. This all seems to be a simple trade if it weren’t for yet another major problem: Philia has already been purchased by another and her time left in the house of Lycus is running out. Psuedolus, desperate for his freedom, will do just about anything in order to make things work. A variety of plans, tricks, lies, and comedy ensue as all the characters attempt to make their dreams come true. So please join us for “a comedy tonight!” Tickets are just $5 and senior citizens are free, but must have ticket. The play will be presented in the EHS Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 15th, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 16th, and 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 17th. EHS boys bowling team captures state title
February 4, 2004 - #0304-5 - By Coach Dennis Erlich

The bowling team began its quest for the state title back in October. We started the season on fire, winning our first 9 matches. We stumbled a little, losing to Granite City and Collinsville. We did, however, rebound to win the conference with a record of 12 wins and 2 losses. The State tournament began with the Sectional tournament in Alton. After two games we were in third place over 100 pins behind. We came back from that deficit to win the Sectional by 132 pins. We then competed in the State tournament at St. Clair Bowl in O'Fallon. We began in third place after the 1st round. We then jumped to first place after round 2. On Saturday we bowled well, but Lake Park High School bowled better. We slipped to second place. The fourth and final round was our best. We overtook Lake Park to win the championship by 392 pins. Zach Hahs was the individual state champion with an average of 241. Daulton Colligan placed sixth in the competition. In all, it was a dream come true week-end for the Boys Bowling team.

Board Votes to Implement Ticket System for EHS Graduation
December 16, 2003 - #0304-4

The District 7 Board of Education voted to implement a ticket system for the 2004 Edwardsville High School graduation ceremony at its regular Board Monday night. The decision to implement the ticket system was based on results from a survey given to Class of 2004 students, their parents, and faculty. Based on initial projections, each family will be issued six tickets. The Board was required to make alternate arrangements because Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville recently notified the District that they could no longer accommodate the EHS graduation ceremony in its current format. With growing class sizes at the high school, the number of participants exceeds the capacity of the Vadalabene Center gymnasium. [Full Story]

The novel has been transformed by Rupert Holmes into a hilarious musical focusing on the disappearance of Edwin Drood, a wealthy, popular young man. Characters are presented as possible suspects in the case of Edwin Drood's death and the audience is called upon to vote on an ending for the story. Performances are November 14 and 15 at 7:30 PM in the auditorium. You can see Brittany Oehler as the spunky and suspenseful Drood, and Ryan Ash as the confident Chairman. Published by: The Kahoki - CHS School Newspaper

A DAY AT EDWARDSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL
BY: Tara Giebe & Adam Harris - Collinsville High School Student's

On Friday, March 14th, Tara Giebe and Adam Harris Collinsville High School seniors who write for The Kahoki, the CHS newspaper-- attended Edwardsville High School in order to write an article about what it is like for a teenager transfer to a different high school. The following is Tara and Adam's article as it appeared in the April 1, 2003, edition of The Kahoki.

We arrived at Edwardsville High School shortly after 7 a.m. The first thing we noticed about EHS was that the entire school (students and staff) stands up, faces an American flag in the classroom, and says the Pledge of Allegiance, which is being led over the intercom in the main office. It was our first day and we were already scheduled to meet with Principal Norman Bohnenstiehl and Associate Principal Joe McNamara.

"Thank You" from the McGinnis Family
Posted: Wednesday, May 7, 2003
A debt of gold is easily repaid.  A debt of Kindness is impossible to repay.
The family of Daniel R. McGinnis would like to express our heartfelt thanks for the overwhelming outpouring of love and support from his family in the Edwardsville area.  We appreciate all who made the long trip to Rock Island for Dan's services, the flowers, cards, memorials and shared stories.  Those stories about your experiences with Dan were priceless and brought us more comfort than words can ever express.  We are speechless by the touching memorial service you held for him on 5/04/03.  It was an amazing tribute to Dan that we will never forget.  We want to thank Coach Wagner for giving Dan the opportunity to be a Coach.  Wrestling was Dan's passion.  Dan frequently talked about his wrestlers.  You meant the world to Dan and were the kids he never had.  Thanks to each and everyone of you for the love and joy that you brought to Dan's life.  Your love and support have brought much comfort to a family that loves Dan and will miss him more than words can say.  May God bless you and bring a smile to your heart in Dan's memory. » Dan McGinnis Memorial
