3/2/04
- Congratulations
to the EHS girls basketball team, which will make its first trip ever
to the IHSA State Tournament this weekend. The team won the
Supersectional last night, beating Mascoutah 47-44. The girls, Coach
Lori Blade, and her assistants are all to be applauded for this
tremendous accomplishment.
The team will play their quarterfinal game at
1:45 p.m. on Friday, March 5, at Redbird Arena on Illinois State
University campus in Normal. If they win on Friday, they would play in
a semifinal game at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Redbird Arena. If they
reach the semifinals, they would play in either the championship game
or the third place game on Saturday night.
Student tickets will be on sale at EHS from
Wednesday, March 3, until 12 noon on Thursday, March 4. Reserved seats
cost $10 per session or $40 for the whole tournament. General
admission tickets are $8 per session or $32 for the whole tournament.
Student tickets are being sold in the Commons, and adult tickets will
be sold at the ticket window in the main office.
Announcements to the students began today,
Tuesday, March 2, 2004, regarding ticket sales and permission slips to
ride the bus on Friday and/or Saturday in the event that the team
advances to the championship game. Permission slips to ride the bus
were made available to students beginning today as well.
We realize that many students will want to attend
the game on Friday to support the team. Because it is a school day,
however, choices will be limited regarding students attending the game
during the time school is in session.
Students may be excused from school on Friday
under the following circumstances only:
·
Students may ride a “fan” bus (furnished by Laidlaw) to
the game. Adult chaperones will ride with the students. The bus will
leave the school at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. The bus will return
immediately after the game; parents should make arrangements to pick
up their child approximately three hours after the end of the game.
Students must present a ticket and a signed permission slip to be
excused from school on Friday and to board the bus.
·
Students may be released to parents on Friday to attend
the game. However, parents must come in person to the high school to
sign out their child. Parents will not be allowed to call in to
have their child leave early, nor will they be able to sign out any
child other than their own child to attend the game.
·
Middle school and elementary students will also be
excused if they are attending the tournament with their parents.
Because of the wide gap in time between the
semifinal game and the championship game on Saturday, the District
will provide bus transportation to the championship game on Saturday
evening only if the team wins on Saturday morning. For the score,
check the EHS Web site. Students will need
to present a signed permission slip in order to board the fan bus on
Saturday afternoon; they should plan to purchase their tickets at the
door. The bus will leave at approximately 4:30 p.m. Look for updates
on the website, or call the EHS Sports Hotline at 655-6555 for further
information. Call Mr. Bohnenstiehl at 656-7100 if you have any
questions. |
