Superintendent Ed Hightower
provided some preliminary survey
counts for the two parent
surveys – interest in summer
school at a fee and the
possibility of reducing the
holiday break from 10 days to
seven – during the Edwardsville
District 7 Board of Education
meeting Monday night. Several
EHS sports groups were also
recognized during the meeting.

Glen Carbon Elementary’s
Illinois Young Author’s Program
award winners Hannah Garde,
Claire Johnes and Jacob Crabtree
were recognized at a young
author’s celebration Friday in
the Glen Carbon Elementary media
Center. Hannah will be
representing the school at the
state competition in May. Before
the party, the students gathered
in the media center to hear, via
Skype, about how children’s
author Scotti Cohn researched,
wrote, edited and found a
publisher for her book, “One

teams at its March 8, 2010,
board meeting.

Midway first graders play principal for a day

As
part of the district initiative to raise funds for Anderson Hospital,
students at Midway Elementary had the opportunity to serve as the “Principal
for a Day.” Midway conducted a raffle for the prize. Students could purchase
$2 tickets to enter their names into the drawing. Jayna Connoyer and Drew
Law, both first graders at Midway School, were the lucky winners.
Both students had their day in the office last week. Jayna served on March 4
and Drew served on March 5. Both students fulfilled a variety of
responsibilities on their designated days, including conducting school
assemblies, observing in classrooms, monitoring lunch, inspecting the building
for safety, and communicating with the staff.
