Parent OrientationPosted: September 2, 2016
Liberty Middle School’s Parent Orientation is scheduled for Wednesday, September 7, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Parents are invited to travel through an abbreviated version of their child’s schedule to meet with teachers, hear about curriculum, and discuss classroom activities and expectations. Today, students completed a detailed schedule for parents that included times and room numbers for parents to follow at orientation. Please be sure to get the schedule from your child to bring to school on Wednesday evening.
Parents of students who are in band should plan to meet with Mr. Gipson at 6 p.m. in the auditorium.
At 8:15 p.m., orchestra parents may meet with Mrs. Banker in D101 and chorus parents may meet with Mrs. Gibson in the auditorium.
The Liberty School Spirit Store will have its grand opening at Parent Orientation. T-shirts, lanyards, water bottles, and coffee cups will be available for purchase.
Voter registration will be available during Parent Orientation in the main office. Please bring two forms of identification, one with a current address, to get registered.
We look forward to seeing you at our Liberty Parent Orientation!
Traffic Congestion at Liberty Middle SchoolPosted: August 30, 2016
Liberty Middle School has had a great start to the 2016-17 school year, but we have experienced some challenges with morning transportation. We have received numerous complaints from parents and community members who use District Drive, as well as from the Edwardsville Police Department (EPD) regarding the traffic congestion on District Drive.
On Wednesday, August 31, 2016, the District will implement a change in parent drop-off procedures to address the traffic. The drop-off area has been reconfigured to allow more cars to enter school property to alleviate the back-up on District Drive (see map on the following page). The map indicates the areas that are to be used for staging the student drop-off and pick-up area and the ingress/egress areas when approaching and exiting the school.
The new drop-off lane will extend into the back Staff Parking Lot and loop around to the drop-off point (blue lines). This change should allow an additional 20 to 25 vehicles to line up for student drop-off/pick-up.
Also, we want to notify parents that the EPD has indicated that blocking ingress/egress (entrance or exit) to an intersection is illegal. The areas in green are considered ingress/egress areas. Cars must not enter these areas until they can pass through; intersections must be left open and allow traffic to flow.
Parents are NOT allowed to use the Staff Parking Lots in the front or back of school to drop off students. The only student drop-off is located on the north end of the school, near the track (labeled on the map in blue)
Finally and equally importantly, in order to improve the flow of traffic and expedite the student unloading/loading process, we ask that parents cooperate by pulling as far forward as possible in the drop-off area, so that several vehicles can unload/load at the same time. This one detail alone has a huge impact on the efficiency of the drop-off process.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
