From the desk of Alexander Fox
It is with excitement and pride that I write to the parents and students about the upcoming Panther Athletic Seasons. As a former coach and athlete, I know the positive impact athletics can have on a young player. I encourage students to get involved in our athletic program or other extra curricular activities because these programs help build confidence, communication skills, interpersonal skills, and more.
Sports Tryouts: Students should listen for announcements over the intercom. Before getting involved in athletics, there are some guidelines all parents and students need to know, as outlined in the following paragraphs. If you have questions about these guidelines or if you would like to talk with me about any aspect of the athletic program, please call me (655-6800, ext. 22107). I look forward to seeing students and parents at future Panther athletic events!
Physicals: All students must present the school office with evidence of having had a physical examination before being allowed to tryout, practice, or participate in any athletic activity. Exceptions cannot be made to this rule. Physicals are valid for one year from the date of the actual examination.
Athletic Participation Fees: There is a $25.00 fee for participation in the following sports, with a maximum of $50.00 per student per year. The sports included are; Football, Cross Country, Field Hockey, Volleyball, Fall/Winter Cheerleading, Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Wrestling, Boys Track, Girls Track. All athletic fees will be due one week after rosters are set. Students who qualify for free or reduced lunch status should apply for a fee waiver. Students who don’t qualify, but have extenuating circumstances, should contact principal, Dennis Cramsey.
Rules and Regulations: All athletes and parents will need to sign and return the Rules and Regulation information sheet, which will be passed out at the first practices. This information sheet serves as a student participation and parental approval contract for the school year. Failure to return this form by the deadline stated by the coach will cause the student to miss practices and games until the form is returned.
Insurance: The school does not carry insurance on individual athletes. Parents are responsible for providing proof of appropriate insurance coverage. Insurance is available for purchase and that information will be sent home the first day of school.
Eligibility: To participate in any extracurricular activity, a student must maintain a passing grade and a 2 or better in conduct in all classes. Eligibility will be checked on a regular basis from the time the student joins an activity. Those found ineligible will not be allowed to participate in activities the following week (Monday – Sunday). If grades and/or conduct improve, the participation may resume after the next weekly eligibility check.
Middle School students must also sign and adhere to the “Liberty Middle School Code of Conduct for Athletics and Co-Curricular Activities.” This document must be signed by both parents and student and will be strictly enforced.
