THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 2008


PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES
Beginning November 3rd we are taking appointments for Parent/Teacher Conferences. Conference dates and times are: Monday, November 24th from 5:30 to 8:30 P.M., Tuesday, November 25th from 1:00-7:30 P.M. and Wednesday, November 26th from 8:00 to 12:00 P.M. Conferences are scheduled in 15 minute increments. You meet with the whole team of teachers at one time. Please call 656-0485 to make your appointment. Students will be in school on Monday, November 24th all day but will be off school on Tuesday and Wednesday due to conferences. The students will also be off on Thursday, November 27th and Friday, November 28th due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

SOS GAME
The 4th annual S.O.S. game will be played on November 24 during activity period. This game will feature our 8th grade boy’s basketball team against the Lincoln staff in a basketball game. All students are asked to bring in a bottle of shampoo or soap to be admitted into the game. All classroom teachers will have boxes to store these items. Lincoln Middle School will donate these items to the Glen Ed pantry whose mission is to help low income families. I encourage each of you to participate in this event. Our goal this year is to be able to give the Glen Ed pantry over 800 bottles of shampoo and soap.

Holiday Toy & Food Drive
G.O. and F.I.T. team leaders are needed TODAY during activity period to help prepare for the Holiday Toy and Food Drive. Students available to help with this activity should meet Mr. Parker in the CAFETERIA immediately after this morning’s announcements.

After School Volunteering
Today’s scheduled trip to the Watershed Nature Center has been cancelled. See Mr. Parker for more details

LOST AND FOUND
Please check the lost and found for any items that you might have loss. There are gym suits, jackets, sweaters, books, lunch bags, etc. in the lost and found located in the cafeteria.

COMPUTER CLUB
Computer Club will meet Wednesday, November 19th from 3:15-4:15 in room 100. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Laakko.

FOOD IN LOCKERS
Students are not to store food in their lockers overnight.

CHORUS STUDENTS:
We will be meeting again today in the Orchestra room during activity. On Friday, only the girls in the ALTO section need to attend, and we will meet in the auditorium. Monday, we will have a full chorus rehearsal in the auditorium during activity. Please remember to take your music home to practice over the Thanksgiving holiday break.

JAZZ CHOIR:
We will have rehearsal after school today in room 201 from 3:15-4:15, and again on Monday from 3:15-4:15. If you can not attend, please see Ms. Haroian.

TUTORING
AFTER SCHOOL TUTORING IS CANCELLED FOR MONDAY, NOVEMBER 24TH. After School Tutoring is every Monday through Thursday from 3:15 to 4:15 in the Media Center. There is no charge for tutoring and students may just sign up on the day they wish to attend in the Media Center. Students will not be dismissed from tutoring unless a parent/guardian comes to the Media Center to sign them out. Students may have someone pick them up at 4:15 or they may ride the 4:30 activity bus home.

ART CLUB
The Art Club meets every Monday from 3:15-4:15 in the art room. Please join us if you are in the 7th or 8th grade and have an interest in art. Our regular meetings are held throughout the year every Monday unless there is a school holiday. Miss Parks (147 art room) and Mrs. Fries (room 003) are the sponsors for the club. Check with one of them if you have questions.

CHECK CASHING POLICY
Neither the Main Office nor the Cafeteria has funds available for cashing checks for students. Students should bring separate checks for payment of lunches, PE uniforms, Activity Fees, FIT and/or Team collections. If you have any questions, you may contact our bookkeeper, Terri Colby, in the Main Office. Thank you for your cooperation.

PICK UP AND DROP OFF
If you pick up or drop off your student at school, please be aware that you MAY NOT drop off or pick up by the gym lobby. That area is reserved for buses only. You may drop off your student at the front main entrance or use the driveway between Lincoln and Woodland schools and drive to the top. You may drop your student off there.

OPENING OUTSIDE DOORS
Students, please DO NOT open any outside door to anyone wanting to enter the building. All visitors need to enter the building at the main entrance by the main office and sign in with our security officer. Thank you for your cooperation.

SECURITY MEASURES
In an effort to keep our school safe, any visitor to our school needs to show photo I.D. when entering the building. Please be aware of this security measure. Also, once school begins for the day, all doors entering our building are locked with the exception of the main door (the entrance facing the Convenient Mart across the street). That is the door you must use to enter our building.

ELECTRONIC DEVICES
STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO USE THEIR CELL PHONES ON THE BUSES TO OR FROM SCHOOL unless it is an emergency. Please remember that no electronic devices are allowed in school. Cell phones must be kept in lockers. Cell phones taken out during school or that ring during school will be confiscated. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO HAVE CELL PHONES IN PURSES OR POCKETS. Even on “vibrate” they are still a distraction in class.

BEFORE SCHOOL RULES
Please remember that 6th and 7th grade students are to be in the gym lobby until the bell rings at 8:05. The 8th graders need to report to the cafeteria and stay there until the 8:05 bell rings. NO STUDENTS ARE ALLOWED TO BE ANYWHERE IN THE BUILDING, INCLUDING THEIR LOCKERS, UNTIL 8:05. Students who wish to eat breakfast should report to the cafeteria and stay there until the 8:05 bell rings.





SPORTS
FIELD HOCKEY
Attention Field Hockey players: please see Coach Berkel if you lost your hoodie from last year’s order. One was returned to her on Wednesday, October 29th. Also, if you are interested in buying the sweatshirt ($35.00) or visor ($10.00) from this year, bring the money to Coach Berkel as soon as possible.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
The bus for the 7th Grade Girls Basketball Regional on Saturday will leave at 8:15 am. 6th and 7th Grade Girls Basketball players should arrive at Lincoln no later than 8:00 am. In addition, players should bring BOTH the blue and the white uniforms to ALL REGIONAL GAMES!!

Lincoln 7th & 8th Grade Volleyball Tryout Information
1. Must have a current physical on file in the office.
2. Please wear a shirt with your name on the back, if you have one.
3. Tryout dates and times:
a. Monday 12/1/08 from 3:00-5:00 pm-- Large Gym
b. Tuesday 12/2/08 from 3:00-5:00pm -- Large Gym
c. Wednesday 12/3/08 from 3:00-5:00pm – Large Gym
d. Thursday 12/4/08 from 5:00-7:00 pm – Small/Large Gym
e. Friday 12/5/08 from 5:00-7:00 pm – Large Gym (Will announce the Team at the end of Practice)

CROSS COUNTRY
Please turn in your uniforms. Runners need to turn in their uniforms as soon as possible. Put your uniform in a plastic bag with your name written on the outside of the bag. Take the bag to either Mr. Rogers’ or Mrs. Hochuli’s room 145 or 315.

LONG DISTANCE WINTER OPTIONAL RUNS
Running for long distance runners will resume on the week of Nov. 10th. A schedule will be posted on the school’s website as soon as it is complete.
