President Reports
During the month of February, Mrs. Burns second grade class at N. O. Nelson Elementary studied Famous Americans. Each student chose a President to report on. Students needed to tell when and where the President was born, jobs before the Presidency, term of office, something important that happened while he was President, and when and how he died (if applicable).

George H.W. Bush
George H. W. Bush was born June 12, 1924 in Milton Mass. He was an ambassador, in the House Representatives, a War hero, an oilman, and CIA chief. He was president from 1989 to 1993. He is still alive. He was president during the Persian Gulf War.

William J. Clinton
William J. Clinton was born August 19, 1942 in Hope, Arkansas. Before he was President, he was a lawyer and the Governor of Arkansas. He helped grown-ups get better jobs when he was President. He was President between 1992-1996. He was re-elected 1996-2001.

John F. Kennedy was born May 29, 1917 in Brookline, Massachusetts. He was a war hero, a senator and US Representative. He was president from 1960 to 1963. He got shot November 22,1963. Something important that happened while he was president was the first person went up in space.

Ronald W. Reagan was born on February 6, 1911 in Tampico, Illinois. He was a popular movie actor. He was elected President of the United States in 1980. Then he won a second term in 1984. He was President from 1981 to 1989. Ronald W. Reagan is still living today. While Ronald W. Reagan was President, a space shuttle exploded and killed all of the people aboard the space shuttle.

George W. Bush was born July 6, 1946 in New Haven Connecticut. He was elected President 2 months ago. He used to be Governor of Texas and a businessman. Hes still living. His father was President. I think George W. Bush will be President for 4 years.

Gerald R. Ford was born on the 14th of July 1913. He was a naval officer then in congress and then Vice President. He was President from 1974 to 1977. He granted full, free, and absolute pardon to Richard Nixon.

Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13, 1743. He was a governor, Minister of France, Vice President and a national statesman. He was elected in 1801 and served until 1809. There was a war against Tripoli. They won it in 1805. The Louisiana Territorial Purchase made the United States bigger in 1803. He died by oldness in July 4, 1826.

Andrew Jackson was born on March 15, 1767 in South Carolina. Andrew Jackson was a soldier in the war. Andrew Jackson was elected President of the United States and served from 1829-1837. Andrew Jackson died in 1837 from tuberculosis and dropsy.

James Madison was born on March 16, 1757 at Port Conway, Virginia. His jobs before being President were being a lawyer, Secretary of State and a congressman. He had 8 years in the White House from 1809 to 1817. James Madison died on June 28, 1836. He was 85 years old. One important thing that happened in his term was The Mr. Madison War.

John Quincy Adams
John Quincy Adams was born on July 11th, 1767 in Quincy, Massachusetts. His jobs were as a lawyer, writer, U.S. Senator, a member of the House of Representatives, and Secretary of State. His term in office was 1825-1829. When he was President, he was also the only son that ran for President. He died on Feb.2, 1846 of a stroke.

Andrew Johnson
Andrew Johnson was born December 29, 1808 in North Carolina. As he grew older, he became a tailors apprentice, a U.S. representative and a U.S. Senator. When he was elected for President the first diamond field in South Africa was found and the first successful transatlantic telephone cable was made. He was President from 1865-1869. On July 31, 1875 Andrew Johnson died because of a stroke and was buried in Greeneville, North Carolina wrapped in a U.S. flag.

John Adams
President John Adams was born on October 30,1737, in Braintree, Massachusetts. He was our second President from 1797-1801. He was a delegate to the First Continental Congress. In 1777 he was elected Commissioner to France. In 1785 he was appointed Minister to Great Britain. He was elected Vice President of the United States in 1789. In 1792 he was reelected Vice President. He was elected President in 1797 and served until 1801. The French Revolution caused most of the problems that faced President Adams. He died July 4, 1826 before his 91st birthday.

Theodore Roosevelt was born October 27,1858 in New York. Before he was a President, he had jobs such as a State Legislator, Assistant of the Navy, and Governor of New York. He was President from 1901-1909. When he was President, the first successful air flight happened. On January6, 1818 he died because he had a blood clot in his heart.

President Harry S. Truman was born on May 8, 1884 in Missouri. His jobs before he was President were being a soldier, a judge, a senator, Vice President, and businessman. He was President from 1945 to 1953. While he was President, World War II ended. He died on December 26, 1972 from lung congestion.

Ulysses S. Grant was born April 27, 1822 in Ohio. He tried to become a farmer, but he failed. He worked at a job in a real estate office. He failed again. He worked as a clerk and he worked in the Army. He was our president from 1869 to 1877. When he was President of the United States, Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone in 1876. He had cancer. He died on July 23, 1885.

Franklin D. Roosevelt was born on January 30, 1882, in New York. He was a lawyer, a State Senator and he was the Assistant Secretary of Navy and a Governor. He was the 32nd President from 1933 to 1945. He was President during World War II. He died on March 29, 1945 of a cerebral hemorrhage.

Richard M. Nixon
President Richard M. Nixon was born on January 3, 1913, in Yorba, California. At the age of 10, Nixon worked part time as a bean picker. During his teens he worked in a packing house, as a janitor at a swimming pool and while in college he was a bookkeeper and a manager at his fathers store. While he was President, he completed the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Vietnam. The Watergate scandal caused him to resign from office. He moved to San Clemente, California where he died on April 22, 1994 of natural causes. He is buried near the house that he was born in.
