Todd Hayes

Assistant Principal, N.O. Nelson Complex

Todd Hayes is the Assistant Principal of both the N.O. Nelson Complex and the Madison County Detention Home.  He has been employed by District 7 for 13 years.  Before becoming an Assistant Principal, Mr. Hayes was a Business Teacher and the Department Head of the Business & Applied Technology Departments at the high school.

Mr. Hayes earned his B.S. in Business Administration with a specialization in Business Education in 1995 and his M.S. in Educational Administration in 2002, both from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Mr. Hayes enjoys spending time with his wife Catrenia and their three small children, Emily, Benjamin, and Grant.

Consumers Education-  Required course that provides practical knowledge from which students can benefit as they move into the rigors of adult living.

Keyboarding and Document Formatting- This course teaches students basic techniques in typing skills and document formatting.

PC Repair & Maintenance-  This course is designed to provide students with an in-depth study of the various areas that are related to servicing microcomputers and peripheral devices.

PC Repair & Maintenance-  This course is designed to provide students with an in-depth study of the various areas that are related to servicing microcomputers and peripheral devices.

PC Operating Systems- This class is targeted for students who want a high-level knowledge and skill in installing and maintaining the Windows operating systems, including install and configuration.

Consumers Education-  Required course that provides practical knowledge from which students can benefit as they move into the rigors of adult living.

U.S. History- The required course enebles students to gain a better understanding of how the American society developed and where it may be going.

Medieval World History- Medieval World History traces the development of the Middle Age civilizations, including Byzantiam, Arabia, China, Japan, England, France, and the Americas.

Ancient World History- Ancient World History traces the development of Old World civilizations, including Egypt, the Middle East, China, Greece, Rome and Africa.

Class Descriptions

Honors Spanish III- Honors Spanish 3 is an advanced study of the Spanish language and focuses on reading Spanish literature while continuing to learn grammatical topics as well. Real life application of Spanish is expected from students, so conversation skills are also practiced in class. Honors Spanish 3 builds upon knowledge gained from Spanish 1 and Spanish 2, so those classes need to be taken before considering Honors Spanish 3.

Spanish II: Students will build on the concepts learned in Swill build on the concepts learned in Spanish I and improve the skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening Spanish.

Mystery and Science  Fiction- This course studies major American and British writers of mystery and science fiction. 

Sports and Literature- This course is composed of high, interest sports-based novel, biography, poetry, and short fictional/non-fictional  pieces of literature.

Class Descriptions

English II- This course covers the short stories, novels and nonfiction literature and writing. There is no research paper for this class.

English Communications-The course focuses on intrapersonal and interpersonal communication skills, listening, drama/theatre, and poetry. There is a required research presentation on the history of theatre.

Contemporary Lit- This course focuses on literary works in a contemporary framework or modern voice that carry universal themes.

English IV- We cover fictional and nonfictional novels, graphic novels/techniques, mythology, volunteerism and drama. There is a required research project on a current event during first semester.
