Board of Education June Meeting Summary

The Edwardsville Community Unit School District #7 Board of Education met on Monday, June 23, 2025, in the Liberty Middle School Auditorium for its monthly session.  

These are not the official meeting minutes and do not include every detail from the meeting, but rather a summary to assist the District #7 community. The official minutes can be found on the Board of Education Dilligent website once approved by the Board. 

Superintendent's Report 

  • Graduation was held June 1 at SIUE. A brief survey was sent to parents and those who attended with those results to be shared later. The district is also doing a cost analysis on having graduation at SIUE vs. EHS.  

  • The Board of Education held its annual retreat on June 13–14. During the retreat, members received an update on Phase 2 of the bond projects, with $10.5 million available for the next phase. Discussions focused on evaluating instructional media centers, assessing the cost and feasibility of addressing concerns with the Columbus Elementary gym, and reviewing options for improving playground accessibility and equipment replacement across the district. The Board also reviewed and updated district policies and student handbooks. 

  • Several summer construction projects are underway. At EHS, expansion of the Commons and renovation of the restrooms are currently ahead of schedule and will be completed before the start of school in August. Double-entry security upgrades are in progress at six schools. At Lincoln Middle School, significant earthwork has taken place, with much of the upper parking lot removed. 12 temporary classrooms are being installed to support ongoing construction. 

  • Student registration is also progressing well, with over 4,100 students already registered, passing last year’s numbers now. Families are encouraged to complete registration by the July 18 priority deadline to ensure class and bus schedule assignments ahead of the first day of school on August 20. 2025-26 Registration Information 
     

In action, the board approved:  

  • The first reading of policy updates related to Board Policy 7:255 and changes in Title IX. This is based on new policies passed last year that support students who are parents, expectant parents, or victims of domestic or sexual violence.  

  • The 2025-26 District #7 Student Handbook. Major changes include: 

  1. Pricing increases for school lunches ($3.55 to $3.95), preschool academy ($175/week to $200/week), middle school PE uniforms ($12.00 to $12.75), and Kid Zone ($105/week to $115/week). 
  2. Addition of language related to the district’s adoption of PaCE Framework for College and Career Readiness for grades 6-12. 
  3. Additions to the behavior section include bystander involvement in physical alternations, instigators, individuals recording of physical assault, and sexting. 
  4. Revisions to the Code of Conduct include language that clearly states it applies to both athletics and extracurricular activities, clarifies eligibility reporting, and implements leveled infractions aligned with the District’s Behavior Matrix. 
  • The 2025-26 copier/duplicating paper bid in the amount of $52,432.95.  

  • The school bus diesel fuel bid from Heritage Petroleum for the 2025-26 school year.  

  • The bid from Domino’s to serve as the district’s pizza vendor for the 2025-26 school year. Domino’s was the lowest bidder at $7.50 per large pizza. Domino's was the district's pizza vendor during the 2024-2025 school year at a bid price of $7.25 per large pizza. 

  • To reduce the Special Treasurer’s bond associated with the 2023A construction bond issue.  

  • A Memorandum of Understanding to continue the School Resource Officer Program for the 2025-26 school year.  

  • Purchasing EHS World Geography materials and supplies. The estimated cost for the district-wide adoption for grades 9–12 of the recommended instructional materials and professional development (6-year license) is $62,952.00. Implementation is set for the 2025-26 school year. 

  • Purchasing EHS Consumer Education materials and supplies. The estimated cost for the district-wide adoption for grades 9–12 of the recommended instructional materials and professional development (6-year license) is $85,957.00. Implementation is set for the 2025-26 school year. 

  • The successor contract agreement between the Board of Education and the Edwardsville School Service Personnel. Staff covered under this agreement includes approximately 300 members; instructional and classroom assistants, monitors, food service, grounds, maintenance, custodial, and school safety officer personnel. The new three-year contract will be for the period beginning July 1, 2025, and ending June 30, 2028. Employees will receive an average annual pay increase of approximately 5.45 percent over the term of the three-year agreement.

  • All Schools
