Board of Education Monthly Meeting Summary: April 22

The Edwardsville Community Unit School District #7 Board of Education met on Monday, April 22, 2024, in the Liberty Middle School Auditorium for its monthly board meeting.  

These are not the official meeting minutes and do not include every detail from the meeting but rather a summary to assist the District #7 community. The official minutes can be found on the District #7 Board of Education Board Docs once approved by the Board. 

Opportunities for Parent and Community Involvement in Three Key Committees 
There are opportunities for parents and community members to apply for membership in three district committees, including the D7 Steering Commitee, the Equity Advisory Council, and the Parent-Teacher Advisory Committee. More information on each committee is available on each application form:  

Interested individuals should sign up to indicate their interest no later than May 24, 2024. Individuals selected for the committees will be notified no later than July 1, 2024. 

Safety & Security 
In our ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all students and staff in each of our buildings, Director of Security Michael Hubbard shared several key initiatives and enhancements that have been implemented, including: 

  • Additional school security officers (SSOs) across all schools 

  • The second edition of the safety and security manual has been completed 

  • All SSOs now have access to PowerSchool, enabling them to efficiently track individuals connected with students 

  • Implementation of SafetoSpeakUp app, which to date, has had 58 tips 

  • Introduction of CrisisGo Emergency app, which allows staff to swiftly respond to crisis situations 

  • Various safety and security trainings 

  • Joint school district safety and security co-op with multiple area school districts 

  • School classroom window signs and hallway corridor signs  

  • Established emergency school bus procedures 

  • Law enforcement dispatch center camera access, which gives all local law enforcement real time access to camera systems in schools 

In action, the board approved: 

  • An intergovernmental agreement between District #7 and Lewis and Clark Community College to allow dual credit for LCCC courses taken by EHS students. Dual credit courses will be taught by District #7 instructors on the EHS campus.  

  • An Educational Affiliation Agreement between District #7 and the Board of Trustees of Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIU) to provide practice/learning experiences in District #7 to qualified SIU teacher candidates.  

  • Several employments, including Dr. Allen Duncan, Assistant Superintendent; Dr. Brian Lane, Director of Human Resources; Ms. Dana Bivens, Worden Elementary Principal; Ms. Laura Rogers, Glen Carbon Elementary Principal; and Ms. Tirsha LeNoir, Curriculum Coordinator.
