Board of Education Monthly Meeting Summary: February 26

The Edwardsville Community Unit School District #7 Board of Education met on Monday, February 26, 2024, in the Liberty Middle School Auditorium for its monthly board meeting.  

These are not the official meeting minutes and do not include every detail from the meeting but rather a summary to assist the District #7 community. The official minutes can be found on the District #7 Board of Education Board Docs once approved by the Board.  

EHS Commons Expansion 
As presented during the February work session, the 8,000 square foot EHS Commons expansion will begin this summer and includes an addition, which will feature Tiger Bites, a grab and go service option for students, and a renovation of the current restrooms off the Commons.  

The timeline includes:  

• Site preparation (July 2024) 

• Construction begins (September 2024) 

• Restroom work begins (start of Spring Break 2025) 

• Main gym and B gym are shutdown (last day of school – May 23, 2025) 

• Existing commons work begins (May 27, 2025) 

• Completion of work (early August 2025) prior to the start of the 2025-26 school year  

EHS Bathrooms Renovation 
Following feedback from the Board of Education and the community on the initial draft presented during the February work session, two additional redesign options were presented. Feedback from the initial draft presented led to requests for increased visibility, addressing hiding spots, and considering a reduction in fixtures to enhance walkway space. The two redesign options presented included full visibility, central lavatories to minimize hidden spaces, door swings, ambulatory stalls, and handicapped/assist stalls. The designs will continue to be refined and shared during the March work session.  

2024-25 School Calendar Revision  
The Board of Education approved a revised 2024-25 school calendar to incorporate the Madison County Teacher Institute on October 11, 2024. Changes to the 2024-25 school calendar include:  

• October 10 – end of first quarter (no student attendance in PM) 

• October 11 – no student attendance (Madison County Institute for teachers) 

• January 6 – student attendance (previously a teacher institute day)
