Board of Education Monthly Meeting Summary: July 29

The Edwardsville Community Unit School District #7 Board of Education met on Monday, July 29, 2024, in the Liberty Middle School Auditorium for its monthly board meeting.   

These are not the official meeting minutes and do not include every detail from the meeting but rather a summary to assist the District #7 community. The official minutes can be found on the District #7 Board of Education Board Docs once approved by the Board. 

From the Superintendent’s report 

  • Class schedules for secondary students will be released on Tuesday, August 6 at 5 p.m., while teacher assignments will be released for elementary students on Friday, August 9 at 5 p.m. 

  • This summer has been busy for the facilities and technology departments.  

    • More than 10,000 devices were touched with new devices being issued for high school students, certified staff, and classroom desktop computers.  

    • Five schools with existing double-entry vestibules (Liberty Middle, Cassens Elementary, Goshen Elementary, Midway Elementary, and Worden Elementary) all received upgraded door hardware and access control software to begin functioning as a secure entry vestibule this fall. 

    • Updated lighting, roofs, and solar work are all underway or completed.  

    • A temporary wall was constructed at Edwardsville High School to separate the Commons addition from the non-construction area.  

  • Beginning next month with the August 26 Board of Education meeting, streaming of meetings will move from Facebook to YouTube to allow for better accessibility. Additionally, beginning in September, all work sessions will also be broadcast on YouTube. 

  • During the 2024-25 school year, emphasis will be placed on student IDs and cell phones. All students in all schools must wear IDs, while cell phones will not be allowed during instructional time. Middle school students will be required to keep their cell phones in their lockers, while high school students will not be allowed to use cell phones during instructional time. More information will be forthcoming from building principals. 

In action, the board approved:  

  • The extension of an intergovernmental agreement between District #7 and the Regional Office of Education - 41 Madison County to provide instructional services at the Madison County Detention Center for the 2024-2025 school year. 

  • The Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Edwardsville and the District to continue the School Resource Officer Program for the 2024-2025 fiscal year. The 2024-2025 MOU includes the city adding the cost of one DARE officer to the agreement. 

  • The schedule to establish the dates for the regular Board of Education meetings for the 2024-2025 school year. Schedule 

  • The purchase of Middle School Health materials as recommended by the District #7 6-8 Health Curriculum Committee.
