Board of Education Monthly Meeting Summary: December 18

The Edwardsville Community Unit School District #7 Board of Education met on Monday, December 18, 2023, in the Liberty Middle School Auditorium for its monthly board meeting.  

This is a summary of that meeting. It is not the official meeting minutes, but rather a summary to assist the District #7 community. The official minutes can be found on the District #7 Board of Education Board Docs once approved by the Board.  

From the Superintendent’s Report 

• Next month’s board meeting will include an update on all the projects associated with the bond, including costs. One quick update is that the Midway project has reached substantial completion. Last month, a new drain tile was installed to address water and drainage issues. Grass sod was also laid and that should be available for students to use this spring. 

• On Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024, the district will hold a Kindergarten Roundup at each of its six primary schools at 6 p.m. Families who will have a kindergartener during the 2024-25 school year are invited to attend. More information will come after the first of the year.  

• Bullying report: November saw 8 verbal incidents and 7 physical incidents across the district. 

BLDD Lincoln Middle School Review 
BLDD shared an update on the Lincoln Middle School renovation and rebuild project, which included updated renderings on the exterior and interior of the former 1925 portion that is currently being rebuilt. The project, which began six months ago, is currently $2 million under budget and remains on schedule.  

2024-2025 School Calendar 
The Board of Education approved the 2024-2025 school calendar. The calendar meets the required 176 days of student attendance and includes time off for staff training and parent-teacher conferences. It also includes a 1-hour early release every Wednesday and has five (5) emergency days from May 27 through June 2.  

The 2024-2025 school calendar also includes the following:  

• First day of student attendance on August 14, 2024 (half-day student attendance) 

• Teacher Institute on October 31, 204 (no student attendance) 

• Parent-Teacher Conferences on November 1 and 4, 2024 (no student attendance) 

• Thanksgiving Break (November 27-29, 2024) 

• Holiday Break (December 23, 2024 – January 3, 2025)  

• Teacher Institute on January 6, 2025, and students returning on January 7, 2025 

• Spring Break (April 14-21, 2025) 

• Last day for student attendance (if no emergency days needed) May 23, 2025

In other action, the board:  

• Approved the 2024-2025 EHS Course Handbook. 

• Approved an agreement to allow District #7 students to continue attending the Collinsville Area Vocational Center (CAVC) in the 2024-2025 school year. Approved CAVC courses for EHS juniors and seniors include Auto Body, Automotive Mechanical Technology, Building Trades, Clinical Health Occupations, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice, Cyber Security, Dental Assistant, Electronics, Early Childhood Education, Education Practicum, Food Services, Landscape Management (New Course), Precision Machining Technology, Teaching as a Profession, Urban Agriculture (New Course), and Welding Technology.  

• Approved Lincoln Middle School bid package #2 for the addition’s structure and exterior materials.
