Dr. Allen Duncan Jr. Appointed Interim Superintendent

Edwardsville, IL – The Edwardsville Community Unit School District #7 Board of Education unanimously approved the 7-0 appointment of Dr. Allen Duncan Jr. as Interim Superintendent during its monthly work session on Monday, Jan. 12. Duncan has been serving as Acting Superintendent since September 25, 2025. 

Dr. Duncan brings deep institutional knowledge and a strong commitment to District #7, having spent his entire professional career serving the Edwardsville community. Duncan most recently served as Assistant Superintendent, a role he assumed in July 2024. Prior to that, he was the principal of Liberty Middle School for four years, following five years as assistant principal. He began his career in District #7 as a social studies teacher at Edwardsville High School. 

“I am deeply grateful to the board for their trust and confidence in allowing me to serve as Interim Superintendent of District #7,” said Duncan. “This is a responsibility I do not take lightly. My focus will be on ensuring stability, continuing progress, and empowering each student to achieve personal success.” 

In 2022, Duncan was recognized as the Illinois Principals Association Southwest Region Middle School Principal of the Year.  

"Stepping in when needed, Dr. Duncan has established himself as a leader that the Board can rely on,” said Bob Paty, Board of Education President. 

Duncan holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Illinois State University and master’s, specialist, and doctoral degrees in education from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
