Lincoln Grand Opening and 100-Year Celebration

Lincoln Middle School ribbon cutting

On Sunday, Aug. 31, District #7 officially celebrated the grand opening of Lincoln Middle School’s new addition and marked 100 years of Lincoln’s history.

Guests were welcomed by Superintendent Dr. Patrick Shelton, while other speakers included Board of Education President Bob Paty, Edwardsville Mayor Art Risavy, Regional Office of Education Superintendent Rob Werden, Kerry Lorts of SM Wilson, Damien Schlitt of BLDD, and Lincoln Middle School Principal Michael Cory.

The event also featured a performance by the Lincoln Middle School Dance Team.

Following the official ribbon cutting, tours of the addition were led by Lincoln Middle School students and Superintendent Student Advisory Council members from EHS.

The 60,000-square-foot addition includes a competition gym, a storm shelter/annex gym, a library/media center, a commons area, eight classrooms of varying sizes and a multi-purpose room. Combined with the restoration of the original 1925 floor, the project blends modern learning spaces with historic preservation. Several spaces within the new addition recognize and honor the long history of Lincoln Middle School and Edwardsville High School.

Funding for the project was made possible by the $100 million bond referendum approved by District #7 voters in April 2023.
