Secure Entry Construction is Complete

Hamel Elementary secure vestibule

When students returned to school last week, they were welcomed back to safer buildings across District #7. Over the summer, construction was completed at seven schools, including EHS, Woodland, Columbus, Leclaire, Nelson, Hamel, and Glen Carbon, to add secure double-entry vestibules. With these projects finished, every school in District #7 now has a secure entrance, an important step forward in keeping our students and staff safe.

These projects were made possible thanks to the support of our community through the April 2023 bond referendum.

Previously, visitors who entered through these school’s front doors had immediate access to the building. Now, all visitors are buzzed in through exterior doors into a secure vestibule. There, they encounter a second set of locked doors and are greeted by a School Security Officer, who requires identification. In many of the schools, the vestibule also has direct access to the office.

The other schools in the district—Cassens, Goshen, Midway, Worden, and Liberty—already had double-entry vestibules in place. Last summer, they were upgraded with additional security hardware. At Lincoln, a double-entry vestibule was constructed as part of the front entrance project.

Thanks to our community’s investment, every District #7 building now has a consistent, secure entrance.
